James Schweitzer, MD founded Bayou Oncology Specialists in 1993, after moving to Thibodaux, LA from St. Louis, MO. Dr. Schweitzer has been a practicing medical oncologist since 1980. Dr. Schweitzer earned his medical degree from St. Louis University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal medicine in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology. Dr. Schweitzer is an active member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the Lafourche Parish Medical Society. In 2001, he served as president.
Kay Arceneaux has been part of our team since October 1999, and she’s been a chemotherapy nurse since 1991. Kay earned her Bachelor of Science in nursing in 1987 from Nicholls State University. Since 1994, Kay has been nationally certified in oncology. She is a member of the National Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) and was one of the founding board members for the local ONS chapter. She has held an office since its inception.
Paula Shows joined our team in August 2000, and she’s been a chemotherapy nurse since 1988. She earned her Bachelor of Science in nursing from LSA in 1976. Since 1991, Paula has been a nationally certified oncology nurse. She is an active member of the National Oncology Nursing Society and, since 1993, has been active in our local chapter. Paula was one of the founding board members of our local chapter and has served an officer and board member.
Tammy Thibodaux joined us in 1994. In 2000, she earned an Associate degree in nursing from Nicholls State University and her Bachelor of Science in finance in 1992. Tammy is a member of the National Oncology Nursing Society and our local chapter of C’est BON.
